119A. 1840s AMERICAN OVERLAY FIGURES BY SCOFIELD & VOORHEES. 7 1/2" x 5" fourfold envelope with six sheets 4.5" x 7"sheets, featuring four pairs of overlay paper dolls. Each pair has one sheet with a paper doll and its overlay pair with one costume, illustrating various female beauty views, such as: "production of character in dress", "management of thick waist" "simplicity and ornament compared" and "management of short limbs". The inner cover of the envelope has original printed information, envelope is not original. Each overlay card is marked "Scofield & Voorhees,146 Nassau St". Commentary: super rare set, excellent condition with normal aging. Estimate: 600/1200
