Los Caprichos, 1799 [Madrid, this set printed later], edition unknown (likely one of the earlier editions of the 1850s-60s), bound set of 80 etchings with aquatint on heavy, unwatermarked, wove paper with a linen-like mesh texture on verso, well inked impressions, many with drypoint and/or burin, with the scratch on plate 45, bound in a mid 19th century red morocco binding with cloth boards impressed A.P.R. (for Antonio Perez Rubio), with inscription dated '1833' on front end paper, old typed exhibition label reading 'Los Caprichos, 1st Edition / Presentation Copy / Loaned by a Collector', inscription reading "A Du Antonio Perez Rubio, recuerdo de su discipulo M. Suarerd y Orprada (?), Madrid, Diciembre, 1833", sheets measuring 11-5/8 x 8-3/16 in. (295 x 208mm)

Antonio P?rez Rubio (1822-1888) was a Spanish costumbrist painter with a Goyaesque style. Educated at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, where he had Carlos Luis de Ribera as a teacher, his work is now found in museums such as the Prado.
