England. 1880-1910. Sherwoods, Birmingham. Metal, cotton. Nickel plated lamp. Original metal box carrying case with label Sherwoods, Birmingham. Wicks and kerosene filling can contained in box. "A Sherwoods Special Service Outfit” containing a Kranzow mechanical lamp with Sherwoods marked on thumbwheel as well as “1 doz. Wicks and Oil Can, with Strong Brass Padlock and Key". The lamp was intended for “Jungle, Camp, and Up Country use.” (Description from Thuro 111, pg. 139). "Sherwoods, Birmingham", label on the box. Thumbwheel marked, "Sherwoods". Wear to brass.
