American. 1870-1880. Bradley and Hubbard, Meriden, Connecticut. Glass, brass, metal. This lamp was produced in 1874 in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Milton’s death. Clear ribbed font, brass connectors, metal stem, black metal base. Student lamp slip chimney, brass burner, white opaque glass umbrella shade. Marked, “PAT’D MARCH 14, 1871 PAT’D JULY 28 1872", brass collar. Marked, “THE ATWOOD ARGAND PAT APR 1871”, burner. Roughness to top and bottom of chimney. Roughness to fitter rim of shade.
