Description
RUFINO TAMAYO
Hombre, Luna y Estrellas.
Color lithograph, 1950. 502x340 mm; 19¾x13 inches, full margins. Signed and numbered 71/200 in pencil, lower margin. Printed by the Guilde Internationale de l'Amateur de Gravures, Paris, with the blind stamp lower left. A very good impression of this early lithograph.Tamayo (1899-1991) remained close to his Oaxacan heritage throughout his career. While influenced by Fauvism, Cubism and Surrealism, having close ties to fellow Mexican muralists such as Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros, and drawing significantly from native Mexican arts and spirituality, he developed a distinctly individual, modern style. During the mid-20th century, and especially during the ascent of his productive printmaking career, Tamayo's style has an affinity with Surrealism, looking back to earlier works by artists including Joan Miró and Max Ernst. Pereda 30.
