Raccolta postuma di lezioni, dissertazioni ed epistole del noto botanico ed erudito vicentino Giulio Pontedera. "Vi si tratta di argomenti vari... sulla sessualità e fecondazione che prosegue a negare ed a screditare con tenacia degna di miglior causa; sulla storia dell'Orto da lui diretto; sui progressi dell'agricoltura a merito dei botanici, ecc. Una lettera, ed una dissertazione, sono una violenta requisitoria contro Linneo ed il suo Sistema di classificazione..." A. Beguinot ne Gli Scienziati Italiani, a cura di Aldo Mieli, p. 93. Giulio Pontedera 1688-1757, vicentino, allievo di Morgagni e amico del Poleni, fu celebre botanico e latinista; professore di botanica a Padova, tenne pure in questa città, dal 1719, la prefettura dell'Orto Botanico ,che arricchì ed ampliò. Fu botanico di grande valore, malgrado il suo accanimento contro il sistema di Linneo.

Giulio Pontedera 1688-1757, from Vicenza, a pupil of Morgagni and a friend of Poleni, was a famous botanist and Latinist; professor of botany in Padua, he also held in this city, from 1719, the prefecture of the Botanical Garden, which enriched and expanded. He was a botanist of great value, despite his fury against the Linnaeus system.
