This painting was originally published on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 32c MiG-15 stamp issued November 10, 1995. The Soviet Union lagged behind Britain and the U.S. in jet development. In 1946, Mikoyan-Gurevich began working on a fighter to compete with Western jets. The first MiG-15 flew on December 30, 1947.
