Description
Merida, Carlos (Mexico/Guatemala, 1891-1984), 10 prints from the Carnival in Mexico portfolio, 1940, color lithographs, number in series stamped verso, signed at front in pencil, full sheet 17.5 x 12.5 inches, all matted and in wooden frames 18.75 x 14.75 inches. Carlos Merida was a Guatemalan artist who blended European modern and Latin American themes, especially those related to Guatemala and Mexico. He was part of the Mexican muralism movement, assisting Diego Rivera for a time. The Carnival in Mexico portfolio included ten prints in the series, finished by the artist in 1939, limited to 500 copies produced in 1940.
Condition
In seemingly good condition unexamined out of the frame, apart from overall age toning and very light foxing.
