Description
Antique large Flemish 17th century Tapestry set of two. Combined measurement of both pieces next to each other is 8 feet 6 inches wide by 8 feet 10 inches long. Each panel approx. 52 inches wide by 107 inches long excluding fringe tassels on lower edge.Two detached Flemish tapestries from a possibly much larger tapestry which has been fragmented as two pieces. Very old with rich vivid colors made in wool and silks.Important Note to buyers: Please read all the condition report below before placing your valued bidding.Selling as damaged restorations needed lot and as is. Additional info on the subject of the tapestry: The fragment with the male figure Chrysostom and the Golden Fleece is a Greek mythology of the Golden Fleece of the golden-wool winged ram which Chrysostom who rescued Phrixus and brought him to Colchis, where Phrixus then sacrificed it to Zeus.The fleece is a symbol of authority and kingship.The Fragment with the female figure on a boat possibly of Amphitrite whom In ancient Greek mythology, Amphitrite as the goddess of the sea, the queen of the sea, and the wife of Poseidon. She was a daughter of Nereus and Doris (or Oceanus and Tethys).Under the influence of the Olympian pantheon, she became the consort of Poseidon and was later used as a symbolic representation of the sea. Her Roman counterpart is Salacia, a comparatively minor figure, and the goddess of saltwater.
