Description
Provenance: Property from the Saul Brandman Foundation. Beverly Hill, California. Tankard set inclusive of a tankard and five mugs in red tone Sumida pottery fabrication, circaMeiji period. Country of origin: Japan. Each piece has a drip glaze design on the surround in ebony with white and cobalt blue. Each mug has an applied pottery design of a male figure seated beneath a palm tree, and the tankard has anapplied pottery design of two male figures beneath two palm trees. There is an applied porcelain plaque on the back of each piece that is signed in Japanese characters by Inoue Rayosai. The tankard measures 12.5 inches tall by 7 inches wideby 4 inches deep, and each mug measures 4.5 inches tall by 4.5 inches wide by 3 inches deep. Provenance: Property from the Saul Brandman Foundation.
