Description
Brenda Walker Canada. Encaustic painting on wood - wax on wood. Entitled - Two Little Gems. Signed in pen on verso. Nest is made of paper from a 1898 and 1918 novel. From her own bio: I am a full time artist from Calgary, Alberta, Canada specializing in encaustic aka. beeswax painting. It is a very ancient art form and consists of painting many thin layers of hot, liquified beeswax and then fusing each of those layers with more heat. Painting with molten beeswax is also known as Painting With Fire and that is because most encaustic artists like to use a torch to fuse those layers...my torch is definitely my favourite tool. Encaustic paintings engage the senses, not only sight, but smell and touch. Each Encaustic painting can have 10 to 30 layers of wax, creating a dimension and texture that is unique to this medium. Photographs can never quite capture the magic of the beeswax paintings.
