David's notes: In his first year at Occidental College in California, a freshman student was asked by another student to take a series of photos in her dorm room, in her hopes to learn how to be a portrait photographer like Annie Lebowitz. Neither the student, Lisa Jack, nor the subject, Barack Obama, would realize the implications until years later. The now famous series of images capture the future President of the United States as he is rarely seen; 19 years old, smoking, relaxing, and laughing as he prepares to enter the academic world as a philosopher, political scientist, basketball player, and skilled debater. In 2010, the M+B Gallery in Los Angeles began selling a limited run of some of the images from the contact sheet provided by Lisa Jack. Customers could purchase single unframed images that cost approximately 1500.00 and up for small ones, and thousands for larger sizes. Framing was extra. One NYC client in 2010 purchased 13 examples in different sizes, framed. Many of the images and sizes were later sold out, and are no longer available. After the collector passed away and his collection was left to his descendants, the group of images was consigned for sale at auction to David Killen Gallery. All of the images will be sold at no reserve starting at 50.00. These works are silver gelatin prints, and were originally framed in 2010 by the M + B Gallery with the photographer's signature. This is a one time opportunity to get one of these photographs at a bargain price, framed, at possibly one fraction of the original price in 2010. Condition is excellent in all works.
