Illuminated Leaf from a 15th c. French Book of Hours
This ornate style leaf features (approximately 1/3 of the vertical page) foliage and floral designs in gold leaf, blue, red and green. The Latin text in brown ink is 20 lines long. On the recto side there are five individual miniated letters in gold on blue ground with white and black tracing; two abstract line ending designs in gold, blue and brown. The verso features another 20 lines of Latin text in brown ink, five miniated letters (in gold on blue and brown ground and with white and black tracing designs), four line ending abstract designs (in brown, blue and gold with black and white tracing), and 1/3 of the vertical page is dedicated to foliage and floral designs in gold, blue, green and red.
