ENGLISH, SCOTTISH, AND IRISH STERLING SILVER SPOONS AND SERVING UTENSILS, LOT OF 15, comprising three stuffing spoons by London makers of one by with unidentified "GS" mark and 1772 date mark, one by Thomas Northcote with 1783 date mark, and one by John Lambe with 1775 date mark, a Scottish tablespoon by James McEwan of Glasgow with 1783 date mark, a sauce ladle with patterned handle by Richard Poulden of London with 1822 date mark, a gilt dessert/soup spoon with ornate patterned handle by Charles Rawlings of London with 1825 date mark, two pieces by George Smith III & William Fearn of London of a possibly mustard or cream ladle, with thread patterned handle with 1788 date mark and a caddy spoon with 1786 date mark, two pieces by William Eley I & William Fearn of London of a small sifter ladle/spoon, possibly for sugar with 1803 date mark and an egg spoon with shell fiddle handle and 1822 date mark, a demitasse spoon by Nicholas Hearnden of London dating c. 1757-1765, a pair of salt spoons with flower bowls and vine handles by a London maker with "WB" mark and 1832 or 1836 date mark, and two egg spoons of an Irish example with engraved handle by an unidentified Dublin maker and one by William Eaton of London with 1838 date mark. Each with a maker's mark and two to four hallmarks of a lion passant or other for sterling fineness, a city mark, a date mark, and/or a duty mark. Total weight: 21.24 ozt. Second half 18th/first half 19th century. 3 1/4" to 12" LOA.
Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA to benefit collections, care, preservation, and future acquisitions.
Condition
Fair to very good overall condition with minor to moderate wear, surface scratches, and other imperfections including slight bending, nicks, one or a few dents, and/or worn spots to decoration, each with residue/surface loss due to removed accession number; Scottish tablespoon with significant wear/loss to bowl tip.
