Item Details
Description
Italy, 18th century. This is grouping of three stunning etchings from Sir William Hamilton's Collection of Etruscan, Greek, and Roman Antiquities Etchings after Pierre-Francois Hugeres D'Hancarville. Each of the vessel engravings include a second engraving of the preliminary plans underneath.

The hand-colored prints were originally published in 1766 by François Morelli of Naples. Similar pieces from the same work are now held within collections of the Met Museum, The Royal Academy, and The Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Each plate measures 14.75" H x 19.0" W and has been placed underneath a plastic cover and mat.

Provenance: From the estate and lifelong collection of William Garrett Hodges (1946-2014). Hodges was a Virginia-based dealer of fine arts, with specialization in prints and rare books, having collected for decades. He supplied and consulted various groups on antiquities throughout his career, including the White House, the Vice President's residence, the FBI, and multiple film and television series.
