Continental, 17th century. A special example of a Renaissance era bible. Filled with notes, names of loved ones, and even pleasant doodles. Includes the Book of Psalms, Old and New Testaments, and many detailed engravings. On chain laid paper. 9" h x 7.5" w.
Overall fair condition. Water damage to pages and the outer cover transfers color when in contact with another surface.
From the estate and lifelong collection of William Garrett Hodges (1946-2014). Hodges was a Virginia-based dealer of fine arts, with specialization in prints and rare books, having collected for decades. He supplied and consulted various groups on antiquities throughout his career, including the White House, the Vice President's residence, the FBI, and multiple film and television series.
