1985 Chevrolet El Camino. Chevrolet answered Ford's entry into an automobile chassis-based truck in 1959 after Ford began building stylized trucks or coupe utilities in 1957. The El Camino, like Ford's Ranchero, was built on an existing full size station wagon platform using a corrugated sheet metal insert replacing the station wagon's rear passenger/storage area. The El Camino, which is Spanish for "the way" or "the road", proved popular right from the start and remained in production through five generations, the final models built in 1987. This 1985 version first appeared in 1982 using Chevrolet's popular Malibu as its influence, picking up the car's front quad headlights and cross hatch grille. In 1985 Chevrolet introduced its new fuel injected 4.3L V6 which resides in this model and was the power for the remaining El Camino production through 1987.
