Bob was child prodigy in art. As early as grammar school his teachers realized his natural talent & enrolled him in classes at the Art Institute of Chicago. A born wonderer, he set off to New York City in the early 1970s after dropping out of college. A midwestern boy, Bob found he was in way over his head but, his desperate devotion to being an artist and corn-fed good looks afforded him many opportunities in Gotham City. Having to make his own way, he supported himself by working at a gallery on 60th street. It was there he met muralist Russ Elliot, who he assisted for a year, helping him on murals, most notably at the Irving Hotel in Southampton & the River House in the city. Bob then became an assistant to Bill Cahill, a teacher at Visual Arts and a fashion photographer. This lead to his new career as a model with Zoli agency and his life took on a new direction.
