Description
Absolutely magnificent this antique salt-glazed stoneware set is a fine example of the early pieces made by Doulton Lambeth in England.
Beautifully decorated with five large applications on the top row, of men drinking and a house with a mill and details of animals and people in and around the house.
On the bottom row of the creamer and the sugar bowl there are small applications of hunting scenes. An impressed "Doulton Lambeth England" and "9409" on the bottom of the sugar bowl and "8543" on the pitcher. Back stamps date them after 1891 (when "England" was added to the back stamp) & prior to 1901 when Doulton received the Royal Warrant (adding "Royal" to the back stamp). This is part of the "Hunting Ware" series, it has a stag hunting theme (see photos).
The jug measures approx. 4 1/2" tall and 4" from the end of the handle to the tip of the spout.
The sugar bowl measures approx. 4" tall and 6 1/4" from the end of the handle to the end of the handle.
The set is in excellent antique condition.
