Description
(Performo, 1920s/30s) An extremely rare porcelain and metal children's tabletop featuring Performo's Micky Mouse and Wadee-Nodee Duck. The Performo company was established in 1926 and produced toys that were distributed by The George Borgfeldt company. Their most popular doll was a black and white mouse who was named Micky after a national "Name the Mouse" contest in 1926. The similarities to Disney's Mickey Mouse cannot be overlooked and in 1928, when Disney's Mouse debuted, Performo's Micky was at the height of his popularity. Disney's Mickey Mouse and other character merchandise (also distributed by George Borgfeldt) quickly out-sold Performo toys. By 1933 Performo toys filed for bankruptcy and closed its doors. Measuring 20"x24" and 1" deep, the table-top displays in very good condition overall, despite some spots of oxidation including a large spot near the center of Micky, discoloration, and wear throughout. A fantastic early piece, and an interesting chapter in the history of character toys.
