(Disney, 1941) An extremely rare pair of original hand-painted cels and hand-painted background featuring Dumbo and Timothy from Disney's 1941 Animated Feature, "Dumbo." The cels and background were prepared by the Art Props Department at the Studio to be used for promotional purposes. This image is a key image used for publicity for the film and can be found on Lobby Cards and Studio Dye Transfers. The setup was later given as a gift, and the mat has been dedicated and hand-signed by Walt Disney. The cels were trimmed to image at the Studio and applied to the background. A matte finish was added to reduce reflection in the cels during photography. The artwork measures 12"x10" within the original 16"x14" mat. The mat has significant aging and discoloration along the top and sides most likely from a previous framing. The bottom of the mat and signature are not affected. The signature is accomplished in Conte Crayon and reads "To Florence ***, All Best Wishes, --Walt Disney." Art Prop set ups such as this one are extremely hard-to-find. The artwork is in fine condition with slight lifting in the cels from the background (normal with age).
