Description
A large Art Nouveau Wood & Sons art pottery charger decorated in the Mikado pattern by Frederick Alfred Rhead (1856-1953) and believed to date from circa 1912. The rounded charger is decorated with a central panel containing two herons amidst water lilies with a moonlit sky. The scene is set within a formal and stylized butterfly border with the whole charger being decorated in blue on a white colored ground. The charger was made in very limited number while Frederick Rhead was art director at Wood & Sons between the years 1912-1929 and the charger has a blue printed makers mark to the base.
