Biography: Leona (Pugach) Rogers, 89 of Miami, Florida, formerly of Saugus, Massachusetts passed away on June 30, 2021 peacefully at home in the loving care of her three children. Leona had overcome a battle with cancer and was in remission but the cancer came back very aggressively after an illness. Leona is survived by her three children Edward (son), Stephanie (daughter), Phillip (son), Bianca (granddaughter), Lucas (grandson), (son in law) Christian de Almeida, as well as her special daughters” Wendy and Jamie. Leona was an incredibly artistic person. She worked in all types of mediums, oils, pastels, watercolor and acrylics. She was a founding member of the Palette Knife Artists of Miami as well as a signature member of the Miami Watercolor Society. She has had her artwork shown in many art shows most recently at Biscayne National Park, Dante Fascell Visitor Gallery, the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida International University, Green Library, Pinecrest Gardens. She also won an Award of Merit at the 30th Annual Fall Exhibition for the Miami Watercolor Society at the Jackie Hinchey-Sipes Gallery. Her best times were spent with the Palette Knife Artists who were a group of women who included her in everything up until the end. She said this was the most talented group of artists that she had ever worked alongside of and made lifelong friendships. The members describe Leona as determined, insightful, compassionate, loving, stylish and wise. Leona was a domestic goddess who devoted her life to her three children and grandchildren. Thankfully none of her children grew up dysfunctional and they managed to survive through the 80s. As a mother she was not afraid to let her kids to drink out of the hose, play in the streets during rain storms that filled up the sewers, expected us to come home when it was dark out and made great tuna fish sandwiches. Leona was a Taurus which means she was stubborn to the end and continued to be feisty up until her last breath. She never held back her opinions; she either liked you or she didnot. She enjoyed a nice glass of wine and pointed out that clock somewhere. Who can blame her?
