1782 Boston, MA & 1795 Alexandria VA Bills of Exchange
Two Early American International financial Bills of Exchange, (1) from Boston, Revolutionary War dated Nov. 25, 1782, plus (1) from Alexandria, VA. dated 1795. The first is Choice Crisp Extremely Fine; the second is Fine and chipped at the top edge and toned.
This Lot of Two Early American financial Bills of Exchange Includes:
1. Nov. 25, 1782-Dated, at Boston, measuring 9.25" x 3.75", Typeset and fully completed in manuscript on quality fresh laid period paper, for 3000 Livres, payable to Edward Jones, through Messrs. Le Couteux and Comp., Bankers at Paris. Signed by Guild & Co. with Endorsement Signed, "Edward Jones" on the reverse, where paying this bill over to "Akker & Heineken", Very bright Choice Crisp Extremely Fine.
2. Aug. 25, 1795-Dated, at Alexandria, Virginia, measuring 7.5" x 4", (4th. Bill of Exchange) Typeset and fully completed in manuscript for 500 pounds Sterling, payable to James Reid in London, (exchange rate) for 666 pounds, thirteen shillings and four pence "Virginia money", payable through "Robinson, Sanderson & Rumney at Whitehaven," England, Signed, "William Hodgson" (1765-1820), British born merchant in Alexandria, VA. Fine Soiled with even tone, chipped on the top edge, with some old stamp hinge reinforcements on the blank back. Endorsed in receipt on the reverse. (2 items)
