Wells, S. M. “Sylvester” (B. 1938) Florida Highwaymen Painting. Oil on canvas - signed lower right. Cotton fields self portrait with family picking cotton. Accomplished as a portrait artist, Sylvester met Alfred Hair and was impressed with his Cadillac. Hair encouraged him to paint landscape which he considered much more difficult. He referred to his non landscape work as Folk art which more richly embodied the spirit of a culture and time. Original noted in Sylvester wells hand "folk art $4000". Canvas measures 24x36 framed to overall size of 33x45. Provenance: sources originally from the private collection of Sylvester Wells in 2019. Condition: Very Fine
