A Scottish Dirk Of A Volunteer Regiment Of The Black WatchSigned Walter Marshall, Cutler, Perth, Silver Maker's Mark Probably Of James Downie, 19th CenturyWith bright fullered blade notched along the back and double-edged towards the point, the forte on one side stamped with cutler's details, swelling rootwood grip carved with basketweave set with silver pins, silver basal mount embossed and chased with foliage, a silver panel above on one side, the carved pommel with silver mount en suite set with a piece of foiled glass in imitation of a cairngorm, in original wood-lined scabbard covered in black patent leather (some losses) with border engraved silver locket and mounts for the by-knife and fork each with thistles set with semi-precious stones, the locket centred on the figure of St. Andrew, chape embossed with foliage on the outside, by-knife and fork en suite with the dirk, and two suspension loops 31.5 cm. blade Footnotes:Cf. a related dirk sold in these Rooms, Antique Arms & Armour..., 24 April 2013, lot 96
