World War II era German-made black leather overcoat, secured closed by two straps with snap buttons at the waist, one placed at the interior and the other at the exterior on the right side, both of which slide through their respective metal clasps. Also, with a black leather belt and buckle, and a single black button on the lower lapel for extra protection against the weather. Two exterior pockets and one interior at the left breast, a tag inside marked with the number ‘3571’. An original maker’s tag at the collar indicates the manufacturer as ‘Weja’ for W. Jauris KG. of Hanover, and further reads ‘Lederbekleidung burgt fur gute qualitat’ (‘Leather clothing is a guarantee of good quality’). As there is no ‘dagger slot’, commonly seen on German officer’s overcoats, we know this was not military issue, though it was made by a German company well-known for the production of military coats. Expected wear to the leather from age and some moth holes throughout the lining, still a very good example.
