A nice piece of 'railroadiana', a brass carbide lantern, 4 x 9 in., used by railroad and mine workers. Features a glass face, metal doors on the sides that latch closed which cover a red glass piece on the right and green glass on the left. The curved top displays a maker mark, designating the manufacturer as VEB Gorlitzer metal factory. The open ends at the top and holes along the top and bottom allow heat to escape. Marked at the bottom ‘Eigentun’ (‘property’) Deutsche Reichsbahn’. A crack to the bottom right corner of the front glass face and some oxidation throughout, still very good.
