Description
An excellent original British satirical etching by an unknown artist, published S. W. Tores, Piccaddilly, Sept. 3, 1795, 13 in. x 9 in., and hand-colored. Titled 'A Laudable Partnership or Souls and Bodies cured without lots of Time', it depicts 'The cheapest Booth at the Fair', with a quack seller of patent medicines at left peddles a 'cure for the souls' in a bottle, while an impoverished Priest at right sells books of Sermons for two pence to the working classes. He quips: 'All my last books of Sermons going for two pence a piece cheaper by one penny than you can buy them on those days that I preaches in the fields: and if any of you ketch'd a cold at that time I'd advise you to apply to my partner for a bottle or two of his stuff.' Very good condition.
