At the feet of the two figures we find the two mounts: the bovine Nandi, Shiva's mount, and the lion, Parvati's vehicle. On either side of the composition we find the couple's children: Ganesh (on Shiva's right) and Skanda (on his mother's left). Removable prabha on the back decorated in openwork with a central flower, makaras, rampant lions and secondary characters. For a comparative specimen without prabha see Asia Society, Acc. no. 1994.002.Provenance: Spink Zurich 1975, subsequently bought on the US market in 2004 and since then in a private collection in Milan. The object suffered damage from a fire, the right foot of Shiva is restored.
