ASSORTED EUROPEAN / AFRICAN PICTORIAL MAPS, LOT OF TWO, engraving on paper, comprising a bird's-eye view of the siege of the town Oost Ende (Ostend), a Flemish town, during The Eighty Years' War (1568-1648), this print was published around 1604 in a Germanic journal, and a map of "LA CIVDAD DE ARGEL", depicting a side aerial view of Algiers, the capital of Algeria in Northern Africa, featuring a map legend in Spanish located in the lower right corner. Each housed under glass in a modern frame, "OOST ENDE" backing paper with gallery label for Antique Prints, Inc. of Ocean View, DE. 17th/early 18th century. "OOST ENDE" 6 3/4" x 8 3/4" object, 12 3/8" x 14 1/2" OA; "ARGEL" 11 7/8" x 8 1/2" sight, 16 3/4" x 13 3/4" OA.
Condition
"OOST ENDE" in excellent visual condition, edges cut, frame with minor wear; "ARGEL" in good to very good visual condition with some light toning, expected vertical and horizontal fold lines, having toning and a few tiny holes in the intersection of the fold lines, center vertical fold line with a repair in the lower section, frame with some wear and scattered chips/flakes along edges. Not examined out of frames.
