Created by Act of Congress, Feb. 1840. $100 bond issued to Charles DeMorse in 1841. DeMorse, the Texas Stock Commissioner, was tasked with funding the republic's mounting public debt under President Mirabeau B. Lamar. Signed by president David Burnet and acting secretary Wm. (illegible). Farming and allegorical vignettes. Southern Bank Note Co. Many cut cancels. Portion missing on bottom right. Toning, tape repairs. 7.5 x 10" David Burnet served as President of the Republic twice: Ad Interim President (March 17-October 22, 1836), and Acting President in 1841, during Lamar's illness.
