SIGNED AMELIA EARHART FINGERPRINTS SHEET.
EARHART, AMELIA. 1897-1937. Document Signed ('Amelia Earhart') containing her fingerprints from her 'visit to police headquarters' during her trip to Mexico City in 1935, 2 pp, 94 x 209 mm, recto of printed police fingerprint sheet with Earhart's ink fingerprints, signed by her as well as by 'S Gonzalez,' as Chief of Police, and one witness, dated Mexico City, April 29, 1935, verso printed and accomplished with her name, date, and Motivo: 'visit to police headquarters,' toning to verso, small tear to left edge.
Provenance: Estate of Earhart researcher Elgen M. and Marie K. Long.
'Earhart had been invited by the government of Mexico to fly to Mexico City. Her plane was still equipped for long-range flying shortly after her flight from Honolulu to California, so she decided to accept the invitation. On April 19, 1935, she departed from Burbank for the 1,700-mile flight to Mexico City' (Long, Amelia Earhart: The Mystery Solved, pp 52-53).
Earhart arrived in Mexico City to an estimated 10,000 fans eager to greet her. Her trip was also commemorated with specially issued stamps and fifty souvenir letters, the sale of which was intended to aid in purchasing Amelia a multi-engine plane for ocean crossings. Earhart departed from Mexico City on the morning of May 8, embarking on the approximately 2,100-mile trip to New York. She landed safely at Newark, New Jersey, just over 14 hours later, completing the first nonstop flight from Mexico City to New York.
