Description
Matthew Daly for Rookwood Pottery
Rare Flowing Glaze vase with goldenrods
USA, 1901
glazed earthenware
12.75 h x 5.75 dia in (32 x 15 cm)
The incised notation 'FL' along with Daly's signature is only the third marked example of Flowing Glaze we have seen.
Impressed manufacturer's mark, date and number to underside 'Flame mark I 925 B' with incised artist's signature and glaze designation 'Matthew Daly FL'.
Catalog Note: Flowing Glaze is a derivation of Rookwood's Iris Glaze consisting of rich, opaque color, which tends to blend and flow over the decoration. It is an official Rookwood-named glaze, which seems to have lasted from 1900 until 1901. Of approximately twenty known examples thought to be Flowing Glaze, most are by either Matthew Daly and John Dee Wareham. Given its short life span, it is safe to assume the glaze was not a commercial success.
This work will ship from Chicago, Illinois.
