Felix Lafond for Faiencerie de Gien
Hound portrait vase
France, 1881-85

14.5 h x 8.5 w x 5.25 d in (37 x 22 x 13 cm)
Felix Lafond is credited as one of the creators of the barbotine technique. He worked for the potter Francois Laurin (1826-1901) and Haviland & Co. In 1881, Lafond worked for the Manufacture de Gien (Faiencerie de Gien), in the workshop of Dominique Grenet (1821-1885). The present work was made during this period.
Painted artist's signature to underside 'DG. F. Lafond' with incised monogram to body ‘LF’.

Condition
1/4" bruise to one corner on outer rim. Restoration to two corners on foot and overspray to most of body. Glaze flaking to lower decoration.
