Just a few reasons why this symphony is so important and continues to be celebrated and studied to this day! This rare piece of music history is presented with a Napoleon Bonaparte Signed Full Document Handwritten in French. This is a unique and rare piece. Napoleon Bonaparte was born in Ajaccio, on the French island of Corsica, on August 15, 1769. Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military general, the first emperor of France and one of the world's greatest military leaders. Napoleon revolutionized military organization and training, sponsored the Napoleonic Code, reorganized education, and established the long-lived Concordat with the papacy. Beethoven and Napoleon were contemporaries in the early 19th century. Beethoven actually admired Napoleon at first, seeing him as a champion of the democratic ideals that Beethoven held dear. In fact, Beethoven originally dedicated his Third Symphony, also known as the "Eroica" Symphony, to Napoleon. However, when Napoleon crowned himself emperor and showed more authoritarian tendencies, Beethoven was extremely disillusioned. He famously tore up the dedication page of his Third Symphony, and later changed the title from "Bonaparte" to simply "Sinfonia Eroica."
