Description
An iconic spiritual modern lithograph titled "Christ of Saint John of the Cross" by Salvador Dali. Hand signed in pencil on the bottom right with an annotation of E.A. 82/300 on the bottom left. COA on verso. The original painting was created in 1951 and is in the collection of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow. Although it is a depiction of the crucifixion, it is devoid of nails, blood, and a crown of thorns, because, according to Dali, he was convinced by a dream that these features would mar his depiction of Christ. Religious iconography themes are a common subject in Dali's artworks. In 1950, Dali had a cosmic dream where he saw the exact image of Christ in colors drawn by him and it represented the nucleus of the atom. From a private collection. Dimensions: 36.25"h x 25.75"w x .5"d (framed). In very good vintage condition. Salvador Dali (1904-1989) was a Spanish painter who was one of the most influential and celebrated artists of the 20th century. Known as one of the founders of the Surrealism movement, he became an artistic icon. His work today can be found in countless museums, galleries, and institutions across the world, and his impact on the modern art world will be remembered for generations to come.
