Description
An Inside-Painted Glassware Snuff Bottle width:3.2cm height:7cm Provenance:Zhang Yanqing (1898-1951) was the son of Zhang Zhidong, a preeminent minister of the late Qing Dynasty, from Nanpi County, Tianjin. After graduated from Qingdao Special High School, he went to Japan and studied there.In 1931 (20th year of the Republic of China), he participated in the founding of Manchukuo and in February 1932, attended the Supreme Council of the Founding of Manchukuo.In 1932, Zhang Yanqing was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs and Minister of Industry in the Manchukuo ruling government and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Concordia, and in May 1935 he was promoted to Minister of Foreign Affairs.After the collapse of Manchukuo, Zhang Yanqing went into exile in Japan, where he was sheltered by Keisuke Nanbu, a confidant of the leader of the Kokuryū-Kai, Mitsuru Touyama, and died in Japan in 1951 at the age of 54.Zhang Yanqing grew up in a family of famous ministers and was nurtured by his father, Zhang Zhidong, who had a passion for art and collecting. When he was in exile in Japan, he took a large collection of artworks with him, which inherited by his descendants. The sale will represent valued selection from Zhang Yanqing's former collection, offered by Zhang Yanqing's descendants in Japan, including many artworks, as well as paintings and calligraphy, from the personal collections of Zhang Zhidong, the prominent Chinese minister.
