Ludovico Maria Sforza was born in 1452 and was the fourth son of the Milanese Duke Francesco Sforza. After his coronation as Duke of Milan in 1494, Ludovico promoted humanistic education at the University of Milan and built the Renaissance fortress Sforzesco Castle. During his years as sovereign, Ludovico Sforza supported numerous renowned artists by hiring them for the Milanese court, including the architect Donato Bramante and the greatest genius of his time, Leonardo Da Vinci. This universal genius worked for a decade and a half for the Milanese Duke and was commissioned by the patron Ludovico Sforza to create "The Last Supper" in the convent church of Santa Maria Delle Grazie, as well as "The Lady with the Ermine", two of Da Vinci's best-known works. The limited edition black lacquer by Ludovico Sforza 1472/4810 is adorned with details inspired by Da Vinci's fresco on the ceiling of the "sala delle asse" in the castle of Milan. The cap and barrel are made of precious black lacquer with intricate Da Vinci designs in 925 sterling silver. The design of the cap top and cone are characterised by the striking architecture of the Castello Sforzesco. Rhodium-plated 750 gold nib with an engraving of the coat of arms of Duke Sforza.
