1861-1865 "Identified" Confederate Soldier's Decoratively Engraved Silver Shield Ladder Badge Professionally Framed this Soldier is Known to have Surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865 with Gerneral Robert E. Lee
"1861-5" Dated Confederate Soldier's Engraved Silver Shield Ladder Badge, Civil War Era, Identified to: "D.(rew) E.(lvin) WILLIAMS" Professionally Display Framed, Choice Extremely Fine.
Exceptional, well detailed Confederate Silver Shield Ladder Badge, measuring 2" x 2.5", professionally triple-matted and framed ready to hang on display. A printed identification of the Confederate soldier above with his units Civil War service military history, seen through special PV Plexiglas in this decorative modern shadowbox style display with a central silver backgound, measuring fully to 13.75" x 20.25". Beautifully presented and attached against a black background within the deep frame below, is the Confederate Soldier's Silver Ladder Badge to: "D.(rew) E.(lvin) WILLIAMS" as shown engraved on bottom of the Silver Shield Badge.
The first top rung reads: "CO. B". It is linked to the second rung below which reads: "14" GA." In turn linked to the bottom Outlined Shield Badge measuring about 1.5" tall x 1.25" wide. The complete text on the Badge reads, in full:
"VOL. INF. / War - 1861-5" (above engraved Crossed Rifles with Bayonets)
"C. S. (between an engraved Confederate Flag) A."
(below the center of the CSA Flag is an engraved Masonic Scribe with central letter: "G" (below is the owner's name): "D. E. WILLIAMS."
Drew Elvin Williams enlisted as a Private in Company B of the 14th Regiment of Georgia Infantry on July 9, 1861, and he along with the 20 officers and 147 men present from his unit, along with General Robert E. Lee and the CSA Army, he surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. A brief history of Co. B, 14th Regiment of the Georgia Infantry is inset within this display to read, nicely matted above the Badge.
On April 9, 1865, the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia by Commanding General Robert E. Lee, in the McLean House in the village of Appomattox Court House, Virginia signaled the end of the nation's largest war.
