CONDITION: Three patches. Some paint losses (biggest in upper right corner). Some craquelure. No visible inpaint under UV light. Some damages to frame.

BIOGRAPHY:
Paul Emile Leon Perboyre was born at Horbourg near Colmar in the Alsace region of France. He studied art under Leon Bonnat (1833-1922), a leading portraitist of the day. Perboyre starting exhibiting at the Paris Salon from 1881 and in 1909 became a member of the Society of French Artists. He also exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery and the Glasgow Institute of Fine Art. Perboyre specialised in military paintings with many of his works depicting scenes of the Napoleonic wars and First World War such as this fine example.
