A Very Fine and Rare Lobi stool by Sakire Kanbire of Gaoua known as the Master of Gaoua. An elegant carved wooden stool with janus Male and female faces and a well worn and well handled surface. The Form is elongated and classic for the region. Lobi peoples, Burkina Faso, West Africa. The Stool measures 21 inches long by 4.5 inches wide. Purchased from William Wright Gallery, New York City in the 1980s, allegedly for over $4000.00 at the time. ***For another stool with human head previously in the Helena Rubenstein Collection, see Park Bernet Galleries New York 1966 lot 93 for an example by the same hand.
