Robert E. Lee (1807-1870). Farewell Address. Boston: A. Hoen & Co., 1866. Presented in original oval frame. Frame backing board stenciled: “From J.W. Dennis. Cor. 9th & Broad Sts Richmond, VA”.

A scarce engraved broadside of General Orders No. 9, Lee’s “farewell address” to the Army of Northern Virginia on 10 April 1865 after their surrender at Appomattox. Features a portrait of Lee at the top flanked by four flags of the Army of Northern Virginia and Lee’s facsimile signature at the lower margin.

Wonderful stenciled retailer’s mark on the reverse of the frame “J.W. Dennis….Richmind, VA.”
