Rare Group of Lincoln Mourning Items, ID?d to Prominent Bishop
Lincoln memorial token. Obverse features profile portrait of Lincoln with the legend, ?Abm. Lincoln, The Martyr President.? Reverse features Lincoln?s life dates and the dates of his first and second inaugurations. 1 1/4 inch in diameter.
With: A retouched albumen portrait of Lincoln mounted in brass frame with black mourning ribbon. (Appears to be a retouched variation of the O-52 series of images by Alexander Gardner (Lincoln in Photographs, p. 84-85). Measures 2 1/4 in x 1 3/4 in. Its stickpin appears replaced.
With: Envelope with an inscription reading: ?medal carried, Badge worn by me at the Funeral of Abraham Lincoln, in Philadelphia, Sty, April 22. 1865. Also a few among my many badges printed for the occasion.? Reverse bears a pencil inscription identifying the owner of this grouping as ?Bishop Coleman of Del.? Likely Leighton Coleman (1837-1907), a prominent Episcopal bishop.
Also with: Engraved CDV featuring a portrait of Lincoln in an oval mourning border with the upper caption, ?His Works Do Follow Him.?
