Signed Saul Raskin, 'Adam and Eve'. Hand Colored Etching
Signed and attributed to Saul Raskin (Ukrainian/American,1878-1966). 'Adam & Eve', Hand colored etching on paper. Signed lower left and titled lower right in pencil. Nicely framed with mat in giltwood moulding.
Raskin was born in 1878 in ukraine. He studied lithography in odessa and then traveled extensively in germany, france, italy and switzerland,visiting art schools while working as a lithographer. He immigrated to the united states, arriving in new york city in 1904 or 1905. He worked as a cartoonist and caricaturist for a number of new york-based yiddish publications.
His paintings, sketches and lithographs portraying jewish life in the yishuv in palestine were well known in the united states, having appeared in many exhibitions and the press. He created work for the lobby of a theater at the corner of second avenue and eleventh streets, at the northern end of the 'yiddish broadway', in the lower east side was decorated with his paintings of palestine. Raskin provided illustrations for a number of hebrew texts such as Pirkei Avot: Sayings of the Fathers (1940), the Haggadah, for Passover (1941), Tehilim:The Book of Psalms (1942), among others. Raskin was a member of the american watercolor society, the society of american etchers, audubon artists and the new york watercolor club.

Not examined out of frame, though presents as very good. Nicely framed with mat in giltwood moulding. Very minor wear to moulding.
