circa 1876; comprising a marble-top vanity, ink-stamped "50" to frame of top (Overall: 86 x 61 x 24 in.); a marble-top nightstand, also ink-stamped "50" (31 x 24 x 21 in.); and a bed including headboard, footboard, and side rails (Overall: 107 x 67 1/2 x 89 in., Bed frame interior: 58 x 80 in.) Note: This suite was exhibited at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition of 1876, winning a top award. It was purchased post exhibition by Remi Nadeau of Mule Team Borax fame and shipped to Los Angeles to be installed at his palatial mansion which occupied the block where the Biltmore Hotel now sits. In 1882 Nadeau built the legendary Hotel Nadeau at 1st and Spring Street, where it furnished the presidential suite. Historic and family documentation accompanies this lot, which is complete with original finish, hardware, marble, and mirror plate.
