Federal Carved Mahogany Armchair, probably Massachusetts, c. 1800. The elliptic crest rail centering a tablet composed of beaded crossed elements joined with leaves and topped by rosettes, serpentine arms on molded concave supports, over-upholstered seat on square tapering molded legs, (several old repairs), ht. 35 1/2, seat ht. 17 1/2 in. Footnotes: Provenance Handwritten label tacked inside front seat rail reads 'John Dorr / b. 1770-d. 1855-m. 1793 / Nov. 14 Esther Goldthwaite / She was born in Newton during the Siege of Boston / Oct. 9-1775-d. 1840 she / had 19 children'.
