Description

Chinese formal embroidered silk rank vest or Xiapei, late 19th or early 20th century, the navy silk vest covered in gold couched embroidery in the form of a faux cloud collar, above dragons and phoenixes, centering a phoenix rank badge, terminating to netting and coral tassels, lined in turquoise silk.

Approximate measurements: h. 43. 5", w. 14. 5".

Condition

Numerous areas where couching has come loose, scattered areas of total loss of embroidery, (1) 3" area of shattering to the back of the shoulder, stains to the lining around the neck.
