1) Nb.39 Nebelhandgranate smoke grenade. Grenade head with "41 brb" date and manufacturer code, and "42 ack" date and manufacturer code on handle. Perforated metal detonator head with solid wood handle. Screw on bottom with pull string and porcelain ball. CONDITION: detonator head retains good amounts of its period red painted finish, with white painted letters for the most part being illegible, and exhibiting flaking and wear overall. Handle bear s small crack at the base, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. 2) Model 1917 Stielhandgranate. Stampings in handle indicating 5 1/2" second fuse delay. Metal components exhibit a green painted finish, with some partially discernible characters in white paint, as well as a belt hook on the detonator head. Ink stamping on handle is mostly illegible. Flanged screw off cap with pull string and porcelain detonator. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their period green painted finish, exhibiting wear, flaking, and some areas of oxidation overall. Handle shows a few scattered handling marks and is slightly loose, but otherwise is sturdy and serviceable. 3) Model 1917 Stielhandgranate. Detonator head with belt hook is painted green, with legible white painted characters appearing to read "Vor Gebrauch/ Sprengkapsal/ einsetze" (Deploy explosive caps before use). 5 1/2 second fuze delay ink stamping and "B.13.5.18" ink stamping on wood handle. Flanged screw off cap with draw string and porcelain detonator. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original period painted finish, exhibiting areas of wear, flaking, and some areas of oxidation overall. Handle shows some scattered handling marks, but otherwise is very good overall. 4) Stielhandgranate training grenade patterned after the Model 1917 Stielhandgranate. Perforated detonator head with belt hook is painted red. 5 1/2" fuze delay marking on handle is ink stamped, with the other ink stamping being illegible. Flanged screw off cap no longer retains its detonator string. CONDITION: detonator head exhibits wear and flaking overall, with areas of dark patina and oxidation. Handle shows scattered marks from handling and storage, but is otherwise sturdy and serviceable. 5) 5 Model 1915 Eierhandgranates, 3 with black and 2 with red painted finishes. 1915 pattern friction fuzes/detonators. Various manufacturer markings on underside of grenade bodies. CONDITION: Grenade exhibit wear and losses to their finishes overall, but otherwise present nicely. 6) Model 1917 Eierhandgranate. Black painted finish, with Model 1917 pattern detonator. Detonator cord is no longer attached, but is retained within the cap. 7) Isreali No.36 Mills Grenade cutaway/trainer. Base of grenade bears Hebrew characters in white paint. Grenade exhibits a mock filler and demonstrates how the detonator assembly. With a fragment of what appears to be a remnant of a detonated mill bomb. CONDITION: very good overall. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18904/MLW). $400-600.
