Early 1800s archive from the Howell family of Gloucester County, NJ. The archive is primarily made up of the papers of Anna Blackwood Howell (1769-1855). Included are several documents from her husband Colonel Joshua Ladd Howell (1762-1818) who served during the War of 1812. The archive has approximately 75 total pieces primarily made up of documents and receipts.Â
Some of the names and signatures and goods being purchased include:
• John H. Brick (blacksmith) - "hoofing wheels", spikes, stock in anker, irons for carriage
• James Sterling - "fishery" bill
• Joseph D. Williams - cords of wood
• James Carstairs - box chocolate, tea
• Potts & Newbold - 10 bushels lime
• Maria Wood - oars
• Joseph Franklin - tax collection
• Thomas Medara - signed receiptÂ
• Saml. H. Crawford - rudder for schooner
• Amasa Pew - loads of manure
• James Gillingham - a cock'd hat, sold to Col. Howell
